Big Dreams starting with application

Thursday 03 April 2008 at 10:07 am

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17"Come, follow me," Jesus said, "and I will make you fishers of men." At once they left their nets and followed him. -Mark 1:16-18

So in our adult Bible Study at BC, we have been studying about the role of the Holy Spirit, first at Jesus baptism and then in those who are believers in Jesus. The Holy Spirit first appeared in the form of a dove, at Jesus' baptism by John, but just as important the Holy Spirit was at work immediatlely in the proclaimation of the good news and calling the disciples.

What caused common hard working fisherman, aka disciples, to simply get up and follow Jesus, and then afterwards go out and minister even after Jesus returning to Heaven?? Our answer came from the context that the Holy Spirit, through Jesus, must have caused them to do so. Thus meaning the Holy Spirit is capable of influencing people, even in the context of our everyday relationships.

With that, one of our residents, lets call her Momma, shared a bid dream and vision that she had been praying over for a while, one involving a cafe ministering to young people, discipling others through service opportunities, and building wholesome relationships - all in a fun, relaxing, and healthy environment. She regularly has teenagers that flock to her own home, where she ministers to them. This dream has become more evident as she has been consistently growing in the Lord, starting even before we met her.

As I look back, I cant help but be stunned at the sheer immediate application of the text of scripture in Momma's life. Jesus has a vision for the lost, trusts the Holy Spirit take control of His life, and that leads to disipleship and more people hearing and being influenced by the power of the Holy Spirit, changing lives. M is simply doing what Jesus did, and growing even more like Christ as the days pass, with or without realizing it. And through much prayer and faith, she wants to implement her dream as soon as possible.

What great things the Lord Jesus can do with us if only we'll apply His word in our lives immediately!

Jesus would be the correct answer.
